February 2
Silver Days Cardiff and Mineral
Elevations, slope angles and aspects:
7000-10'800, angles over 35°, all aspects.
Avalanche acitivty:
Cornice drop in Oingo Boingo produced a new snow slide the width of the apron. Other activity observed was from during the storm with slides on east facing Caridiac ridge and a large slide on north facing Santiago, in Mineral Fork, entraining most of the area, initiating up in the rocky starting zone. That one ran at least 1500' vertical.
Slides on south facing Davenport from yesterday, February 1. Skier caught and carried.
Slopes skied:
East bowl Silver Fork, West bowl Silver Fork, Hideaway park into Days Fork, Holy Toledo into Cardiff Fork, Cardiac ridge and Mineral Fork from the ridge on Cardiac.
Snow conditions:
A foot or so from the most recent storm. Settled nicely, allowing good skiing and easy trail breaking.
Weather:
Partly cloudy to overcast. Light winds along the ridges. Moderate temperatures.
Evaluation:
Snow is stable. Some isolated wind drifts may remain active. Future instabilities would be dependent on wind (currently forecast to blow hard) and snow amounts from the next round.
